U.S. Bankcard Services, Inc. Prepares Merchant Account Holders for Nationwide 2010 PCI Compliance
U.S. Bankcard Services, Inc., a leader in credit card processing, is taking strides to improve the merchant experience by preparing their Elavon merchant account holders for PCI Compliance. All merchants are required to comply with PCI DSS and all payment applications must be PA DSS certified and validated by July 2010. Notifications of validation options will be distributed throughout the remainder of the year. Merchants have 90 days to comply.

(PRWEB) September 23, 2009 – By the end of 2009, any Elavon merchant that processes, stores, and/or transmits cardholder data will have to comply to the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), a set of bankcard association requirements intended to ensure a secure processing environment. U.S. Bankcard Services, Inc., a leader in credit card processing, seeks to educate Elavon merchant account holders about the impending changes to the current standards.
All merchants are required to comply with PCI DSS. U.S. Bankcard Services, Inc. and Elavon have partnered with Trustwave Information Security and Compliance to ensure all their mutual merchants receive the best possible service and protection. Existing merchants boarded before October 2008 and not previously notified of validation requirements should have received a notice in August explaining how to become validated. Any merchant not validated will be billed a non-compliance monthly fee on their September statement. Merchants that meet the requirements for Multi Locations as it relates to the PCI Compliance program, as well as merchants on a Foreign Network, have been excluded from this mailing and will be addressed in a separate mailing later in 2009. Merchants boarded between October 1, 2008 and August 10, 2009 will be provided with compliance notifications beginning November 2009.
All merchants will be categorized into one of four levels to be determined by the merchant’s Visa transaction volume over a 12-month period. Deadlines are specific for different levels. U.S. Bankcard Services, Inc. merchants have 90 days after notification to provide their compliance validation certificate through the Trustwave website or a $20 non-compliance fee will be assessed monthly until validation is provided. Since Typhoon Morakot's torrential rains ravaged southern Taiwan on August 8, 2009, there has been 123 confirmed deaths and more than 380 people presumed dead. More than 1.5 million were forced to evacuate their homes. 14,000 have been displaced, with 5,000 living in camps after their homes were destroyed by the most devastating typhoon to hit Taiwan in over half a century. Though the typhoon has since moved, large numbers of people are still without water or electricity, and there has been a significant damage to crops, livestock fisheries, forestry, and infrastructure.
"U.S. Bankcard Services is deeply mournful for the aftermath of Typhoon Morakot in Southern Taiwan, and for the thousands of men, women, and children who have lost their homes," says U.S. Bankcard Services President and CEO Chris Chang.
